Ultimate Job Interview Tip – Ask!©

3 Job Interview
Hurdles to Overcome When Asking for a Job
"If you don't ask, you don't get" Mahatma Gandhi
Step 4: This article is about you asking
for the job.
Why? By asking you may just tip
the scale in your favor.
Expert will tell you that if your
job interview went well, asking for the job is the icing on the cake.
After reading the first 3 steps
you know that verbal/body language synchronization is my theme. Stiffs don’t get job offers unless you’re applying to be a broom
handle.
Anyone who has practiced honing
their job interview techniques has practiced asking with the “right” words, at the “right” time, in the right “way”. Will you? I would
love to have a video of you during the Step 4 of your job interview so that we could play it back
together (and laugh)?
4 Basic Job Offer Scenarios
1) Rejected.
You are rejected outright. Make your exit professionally
memorable. Reassess your strengths and weakness for your next job interview. You have just gained priceless experience in the art of job
interviewing. Do not throw it away.
2) All job offers are
pending. You are told that no offers will be made
for 2 weeks (or so). Grab control by offering to call, nailing down a time and date. Drifting, agreeing to wait suggests a lack of
interest.
3) Indecisive
interviewer. If your interviewer acts indecisive,
reaffirm yourself as the solution and ask for the job. Ask. Your push may just do it.
4) You are offered the
job. Take the offer if you still want
it.
Your challenge is scenario #3.
Sniff Like a Fox
Does the interview “smell”
right?
Difficulties in asking for the
job are self-inflicted. Are you good enough? Do you match up? Who else is competing for the job? I call these feelings - insecurities,
“vagaries”, or formless issues of your mind.
The more you prepare and train
for your job interview, the fewer vagaries you will encounter.
On a positive note, you were invited to your job interview because your cover letter/resume met a minimum requirement for
the position. Your only concern is to come across as the most desirable candidate. Note: I said most desirable not necessarily most
qualified.
Honestly, you just spent the first 3 steps of your interview sniffing out your
job candidacy. What did you sense? Is your interviewer’s verbal/body language in sync? Try sniffing out how things are going as you would on a
blind date. It’s called sizing up your interview.
Your inquisition, discussion or
chat phase should offer you a heads up as to your candidacy. Ironically, a well handled tough inquisition may be your strongest suit. If well
handled.
To Ask or Not to Ask, That is the Question
No matter that almost very expert
and book on earth pounds on you to ask for the job, are you holding back because subconsciously you don’t want the job? Honestly, do you feel
like asking?
I hate to ask! That’s right. I
hate the thought of slipping-up with so much riding on my words.
You’re seeking a job but in fact
it’s a career move. You want it. The interviewer knows it. Your task is to ask with conviction. This is the moment of truth for all your mock
interview training. A slight slip in composure and your question can turn you into jelly. I hate asking!
On the other hand let’s
say…
You decide not to ask. You don’t
get a job offer. Are you going to regret not asking? If yes, then always ask.
Did you ask?...
