Some Job Interview Training Suggestions:

1. If you need a lightning response (scenario #1 or #2) to help tweak your job interview skills, consider some of these ideas:

a)     Look to your immediate surroundings. Is there anyone you can turn to for instant help?

b)     If not, consider looking for professional help locally. Having someone assess you face-to-face allows immediate feedback regarding your job seeking weaknesses and strengths.

c)      While we are at it, remember, to be offered a job interview, you must first have a convincing cover letter and resume.

d)     The Internet is an amazing search tool but 107,000,000 hits for a “job interview” search is not going to cut it.

e)     Consider searching for a job interview specialist who offers phone consultation. It’s the next best thing to being there.

f)      If you are semi-prepare for your interview, consider boning up by viewing interview training related videos (CD, DVD) or by listening to audios.

g)     If you’re short on finances, one of the best alternatives may be an interview related eBook. The better ones are brief, to the point, helping you to organize your data by filling in tables, charts as well as offering important tips regarding your preparation. Once you organized, your data becomes a perpetual job interview preparation document that can easily be updated at any time.

h)     Other. This is where you improvise by mixing one or all of the above suggestions with your own ideas, creating your own unique interview techniques.

i)        If experience a catastrophic job event similar to Scenario #2, here are a few extra tips to keep in mind. Expect to work harder because you may be more emotionally distressed. Leave your self-pity at home no matter how much you think you deserve it. A positive attitude is contagious and sells. Negative attitudes can torpedo your best efforts. And remember, your interviewer is only interested in what you can do for the employer!

2. For the “Lucky You” (scenario #3) who has the leisure time to plan for the future:

  • Yes, all of the above tips are at your disposal.
  • First, please put an emergency interview preparation plan into action. Without one, you may accidentally fall into scenario #1, unprepared.
  • With your contingent job interview plan in place, you can relax and spend time working and improving on your “emergency interview preparation” above.
  • Because time is not hounding you, consider a job interview seminar or boot camp or just peruse the 107,000,000 hits. :)
  • If you are planning a new career or enhancing one with education, always update your resume to reflect your current accomplishments. Your updates prevent you from forgetting while keeping your resume current.

Preparing for your job interview is like cooking a stew. You have almost unlimited ingredients. With your culinary techniques you can personalize the stew’s taste and consistency by adding in various ingredients at different times and in different amounts during the cooking process to match your taste and palate. In the same vain, you personalize your job interview techniques reflecting your personality and career goals for your job interview.

I hope these educational job interview tips help you to appreciate the need for job interview planning to develop successful job interview techniques. Now go plan!
